That Damn Church
Obama’s church, and the preachers, both black and white, who have preached there, could de-rail his quest for the presidency in the national election. That’s if Hillary doesn’t passive aggressively use the issue to somehow de-rail the nomination first.
How he didn’t see it as a potential political liability 5 years ago becomes harder and harder to fathom. It’s possible that Michelle Obama, who introduced him to the church, has successfully used the empowerment ethos that was preached there to fulfill ambitions that seemed out of reach, and that’s admirable for her and a victory for the church.
The problem is that while she and Barack were probably able to separate the wheat from the chaff in the sermons, many Americans viewing them will not, and will mistakenly project their own inability to do so on the Obamas.
I don’t know if an entire church can be thrown under the bus, but politically, this may be what has to happen if the dream that the church has at it’s core is to be fulfilled.
