Premature E-Celebration

I don’t mean to be a killjoy, but I’m getting too many euphoric e-mails, some containing images like the one above, touting Obama’s “unstoppable” momentum. Polls are being gleefully circulated and virtual high fives are being exchanged.

I’m reminded of the pathetic NY Knicks chest bumping each other in the middle of the 3rd quarter after making up a 15 point deficit, only to see them ultimately lose by 10.

Vigilance bordering on paranoia is what’s called for. It’s not hard to picture 20 ultra-right wing billionaires sitting in a compound somewhere planning things too awful to contemplate, yet too easy to imagine. The mother of all swift boats.

Let your guard down when Obama’s sworn in, safe and sound.

  1. Indeed… with a margin of error for closet bigots unwilling to tell a pollster their real reasons, and the swift boating yet to come… all the more reason to keep up the good fight.

I do hope McCain really does spend the next few weeks on positive, issue based speeches and ads. It would be a dignified end to the fight…

  2. Dead right LK. You don’t know how many times I think along similar lines while watching the Presidential race unfold from across the pond here in the UK. I can’t vote cos I ain’t an American but if I could (the USA has so much influence over my country, sometimes I feel like we should get a say in it too-especially with the likes of Palin kicking about, I swear she won’t rest until Europe is a nuclear waste-ground!) I would have to vote for Obama. I sincerely hope that you Americans who want change and a fairer society don’t let your guard down and that, perhaps more importantly, Obama and his people don’t get too cocky because of the polls. His comments about ‘Krypton’ and ’saving the Earth’ were just about within the limits the other evening, he has to make sure he kerbs all that when he is back on the real campaign trail!

Good post yeah m8, gonna be looking back here again!

    Peace

Vote Obama/Biden, for the whole worlds sake!

  3. Thank you!

  4. LET YOUR GUARD DOWN??? What do you mean this is not a battle. This red versus blue thing is kind of ridiculous. Fight with points not standards. Yeah sure you have this huge idea of who should win but what does that matter the who? Ideas are important stands are important and politicians are only important because they are either going to help you achieve what it is you believe or they are not. Anyways my argument is don’t fight for Obama fight for an issue you believe in and if Obama embodies it then that follows. Basically what I am wondering is what are the issues you are concerned with that Obama embodies?

  5. Obama is better suited, tempermentally, intellectually, and generationally, to take on just about any issue that exists or might arise. and since he clearly has empathy for more citizens than Mac does, whether they appreciate it or not, he’s better qualified to provide circumstances that might lead to a better life for all.
if you’re looking to argue Iraq, taxes, wall street reform, we can go at it all night and never resolve anything.
bottom line is, of the two imperfect men that the party machines and we the people have put up, we’ve got to take our best guess as to who will come closer to providing a better life for the most people? and keep it mind that to some degree, both men lie through their teeth to please a gullible electorate.

  6. I couldn’t agree with you more.

  7. Yeah, there’s a bunch of ultra-ring wingers sitting in a room. But they’re not contemplating how to steal’ the election. They are complaining that ACORN is running around registering mickey mouse and the Dallas Cowboy plus millions of others to steal the election. You might want to rethink your paranoia.

  8. hello Patrick. these days there’s a fine line between paranoia and appropriate vigilance. and if the Republican candidate was a real maverick who was going to attempt to alter the status quo, there’d probably be a bunch of Democratic billionaires sitting in the same room.
i’m an equal opportunity theorist, and think it’s naive to believe otherwise.
    stay in tocuh. LK

  9. Wow, this was stupid and a waste of time… Obama wins, boo hoo for you.

  10. not understanding. the vigilance had no down side and may have contributed to the victory. please clarify. thanks. LK
