LK already had a father who micro-managed his behavior. He didn’t think that casting his ballot for Obama meant signing up for a second one.

  1. Ah, yes, the ever-so-romantic “get your government off my back” argument. Too bad government already controls most aspects of our lives. But Obama wants make people healthier and/or give them better health care and suddenly he’s gone too far. Sorry, I’m just not buying it.

But you have to wonder: If obesity and heart disease kill more Americans than terrorism, and the president’s number one job is to keep us safe, wouldn’t that mean the government should step in and monitor what we eat?

  2. can’t argue with your specific point. but where does one draw the line? in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the wallet, in the soul? there comes a point where each of us feels the personal intrusion more than the collective benefits. i’ve reached that point.

  3. I can argue with it. What you eat is your personal choice, meaning that your health is under your own control, but you can’t exactly choose when and where a terrorist attack happens. Sure, you can choose where you walk and who you talk to, but in the end it’s forces from without that cause the problem.

That said, we already spend too much money on the military. Leave Afghanistan and Iraq at the nearest opportunity, cut the military budget, cut the healthcare budget, cut every budget you can. The police can protect us in the US, and we can protect ourselves in our own houses. And we can choose what we eat.

  4. The government already chooses what you eat. It’s called the FDA – and I bet most of the time you really appreciate when your food and drugs don’t kill you.

Now if you wanna live on a mountain and kill your dinner every night, well that’s your choice. But in a world with 6 billion people, most of which live in major cities, that’s absolutely unrealistic for everyone.

As far as that government line LK speaks of, I’m sure it exists, but I’m not qualified enough to tell you where it is. Still, I’m pretty damn sure this administration hasn’t crossed it anymore than our previous leaders.

  5. you’re an idiot

  6. I would rather take a dose of positive government social engineering rather then the continuous corporate brainwash of my individuality.
Getting people insured under the new health plan will save voters money in various ways. The public option acts as competition against private insurance bringing the costs down everywhere.
People who were uninsured still got treatment even though they had no money to pay for it.
Under the new plan you have to be insured so a lower cost obtained because upfront treatment cost is double if not triple in some area’s
You despise when the government tries to act in a responsible and progressive way for the people as opposed to corporate interests.
Are you just as pissed off at those corporate interests brainwashing the fuk outta you? Cause it seems to me that you understand these things on a linear level.
You also tend to emotionalize everything instead of using rational thoughtful arguments.

  7. The president has been viewed as a father figure, I would argue since the birth of our nation, but definitely since the FDR administration. Those fireside chats seemed pretty familial..But it’s now that this is a problem? There are obvious similarities to the two roles; expectation of leadership, role modeling, power. Duh.
Anyway, get over your fear of taxes. We have always paid taxes, we will always pay taxes, and if you are so concerned with the well being of others as you say (with the giving to charities), then what’s your problem with this money going to help your beloved middle class, and more importantly, those less fortunate. Most of who, by the way, spent well above their means in the last decade. I don’t buy that sad bastard woe-is-me victim BS that the middle class is this well meaning segment of the population that gets shit on, stop buying stuff you don’t need and then maybe you will have more money and you won’t need to bitch so much about paying taxes.

  8. Dumb. You raise no specifics about points or policies, you just blather on from tea party point to tea party point. You cry about taxes but Obama has given the largest tax break to the middle class in the history of our nation – and yes, increased taxes on the super rich. Both of which are more than ok with me.

And as for your Obama father making all of your decisions for you, wtf are you talking about, grow up and get over your daddy issues. I can’t believe anyone who made it through the Bush years is worried about big brother being invasive under Obama. Oh and additionally, all that hands-off no government involvement in industry or economics led to our dismal financial situation and the rape of the american public by the very financial institutions republicans didnt want the SEC to watch.

Your complete lack of specificity is what makes you sound downright stupid. Give me one good example of obama “telling you what to eat” or wear or drive or smoke, you make it sound like its the lyrics to the Stones’ “Satisfaction”, it sounds whiny. Aside from healthcare, you and the rest of the republican fools have no valid point about a giant invasive government breaking into your homes and changing the channel on your tv just as the Lost finale finishes. And as for people being required to buy into healthcare or receiving a fine? Good. What happens now when people are uninsured and get into a brutal car wreck? Taxpayers fucking pay for it – and at rates a lot higher than the government has incentive to charge. That’s why states have seat-belt laws now – it may be infinitesimally invasive – but it saves the middle class tax payer money, and that is precisely what i care about and so should you.

p.s. shut it about your gracious charity comparisons, you could compare your contributions to nearly anyone in washington and im sure the politicians would lose, half the reason people give is to get tax breaks – ALTHOUGH YOU QUOTE NO ACTUAL NUMBERS.
