Lessons to be Learned

We know the Republicans can learn a thing or two from this election.  The Democrats would be wise to pay attention as well.

Winning the keys to the White House in 2000 by running a lowest common denominator candidate, and an even lower common denominator campaign, is going to have long term negative consequences for the elephants.

Statesmen instead of salesmen will be the mantra of the future.

The troubled economy, which imploded at the worst possible time for the Republicans, is their own damn fault.  You can talk about Fannie and Freddie and Barney until you’re blue in your red face, but it was Paulson himself, who, while at the helm of Goldman Sachs, petitioned to allow the investment banks to raise their leverage from an already risky 15:1 to an arrogant, no margin for error 40:1.  One bad bet and all in became all out.

Masters of the universe my ass.  Unfortunately, yours too, unless you’re not a taxpayer.

And now Paulson the fox is cleaning up the hen house while the rest of his cronies spend much of their time in the pig pen.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats can learn from the results that continue to come in.  The question is,  will they?

PS: As I’ve been saying for a while, the Fairness Doctrine is Democratic folly, as no Rush, Sean, Laura, Ann, or any of their breathren turned out to have the power to sway the final results of this election.  Doesn’t mean they didn’t make it closer than it might have otherwise been, and admittedly the left wing still needs some decent on-air talent.  It just means that legislating equal time in a commercial radio environ is both un-American, and was, in this case, unnecessary.  I’ll elaborate further on this in the near future.

  1. I really hope both parties learn a lot from this election as well. Maybe in the future we’ll actually hear more on issues instead of having to watch everyone bicker the entire campaign.

  2. my guess is everyone has learned something. we are constantly learning. the question is are we learning the right lesson. in other words, are we drawing the right conclusions. from what i’ve been reading, the answer is, no. and this is the norm, not the exception; and i will end this with a favorite quote. it is attributed to einstein… “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
