Hillary For Veep, Redux

Given that:

a) according to CNN, 1 in 10 Americans believes that Obama is a Muslim,

b) the polls are way too close for comfort, and

c) Lanny Davis makes a convincing case for Hillary as O’s running mate in today’s Wall Street Journal,

below is an update of a piece originally posted on June 3rd, when the idea of Hillary For Veep was even less appealing to Obama supporters than it is now:

Wall Street Journal

“Couldn’t believe it myself when I wrote the headline above. Here’s the thinking:

Together, baggage and all, an Obama/Clinton ticket seems unstoppable. There will be meddling from Billary. There may also be the risk of conscious and unconscious sabotage, in the hope that Barack loses and Hillary gets one more shot in 2012. And there’s still the ugly possibility that whatever provoked her to refer to RFK’s tragic demise is still lurking in her ultra-complex cranium.

Still, paradigm changing events take time and are not comfortable. I’ve heard a number of very bright people use the “marathon” analogy to describe the Dems ‘08 nominating process. Respectfully, they’re wrong. Compared to the time it took to transform a scruffy bunch of oppressed English colonies into America, the primary season was barely a quarter mile sprint.

Having the first black American president, and everything it would mean to both the citizens of this country and to the world community, as well as what it would indicate about this country to the world community, is paradigm changing. It’s also got the potential to be paradigm restoring, given the surreal nose-drive America’s reputation and the American experience have taken since Dubya ran the greatest power in the world into the ground.

And that’s not just our military power. Our economic strength and our power to do good works have taken serious hits. Expecting McCain to do anything but temporarily soothe a wounded nation is living with blinders on.

Obama/Clinton. Won’t be easy. Nothing worth doing is.”

  1. Greetings, LooseKannon:

I liked your blog about Hilary, following, however, are some comments/views:

Barak Obama was born to a Muslim, by virtue of his birth he was born a Muslim; the fact that he changed later, notwithstanding. It may also interest you that by some strict interpretation of the Koran; once a Muslim, always a Muslim, but this is not a fast and hard fact, unless one lives in a country managed by Islamic law.

Hilary as VP to Obama will create a situation of a Tail Wagging the Dog! Obama is a much better orator, and has more charisma, but does not have nearly the life knowledge, or the blind ambition to be able to hold her back.

Obama is not an African American; he is half Caucasian (technically a Mulatto; no shame in that, but why call him black?) Calling Obama black seems to fit the paradigm; it is simply a self-serving act to demonstrate the [non-existing] diversity of the United States.

There is no question that under George W. Bush the United States image took a nosedive; it is not the kind of deterioration, however, that having a Mulatto, or even a pure black President, is likely to change.

For Obama to succeed he must admit who he is: A Muslim by birth, a Christian by choice.

Also, positions Obama changes must be for valid reasons, not for political expediency. For example, the position on Jerusalem, the recent change regarding offshore drilling appear to either be strictly politically motivated, or due to lacking preparation when he first took them.

Obama is undoubtedly the best orator of modern days, excepting perhaps Hitler and Churchill; but that is not enough qualification for becoming President of the United States. It may afford Obama, as it has a celebrity status, but it will take much more content and a lot less form if he has a chance to gain the Presidency.

  2. In times long past and even quite recently, I read accounts of the large number of people associated with the Clintons in one way or another who have strangely decided to commit suicide for no apparent reason. None of the deaths have ever been seriously investigated, of course, not even the one in which the poor soul managed somehow to shoot himself in the back of his head. I would not have been surprised to learn that he blew his brains out twice before succoring to his wounds.

Without question, this is the chief argument for why Obama would be a perfect fool to select Billery as his running mate. Many people would have pools going about how long it would take before his airplane fell mysteriously out of the sky as happened to a Clintonista about to apostatize on at least one occasion previously. Seems I remember a Mr. Brown biting the dust in that one, and, again, he managed to shoot himself in the head before dying. Then, after the funeral and much weeping, Hillary would realize her fondest desire of becoming President of the United States of America. Aint it grand?

  3. to dan-goor: i cannot take issue with many of your specifics. i wonder, however, if they’ve been arrived at inductively, through unbiased observation, or constructed deductively, in order to justify a predetermined conclusion. probably a bit of both, i suspect. i appreciate your well thought out counterpoint. LK

to Colin: i like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person. i was ranting about cell phones and brain cancer a decade ago and don’t think LHO acted alone when JFK was killed. i’m aware of the tragic deaths that have befallen members of the Clinton inner circle. i’ll take my chances. if he selects her, Barack will take his.
