The Giants are the Super Bowl champs, and that’s just fine and dandy, but it doesn’t change the dysfunctional local, national, and international goings on.

Newt, the “angry little attack muffin” (thank you Peggy Noonan) makes Thomas Eagleton look like the picture of mental health. LK didn’t know he was one of the despised northeastern elite just because he rode the NYC subways, and no doubt his fellow strap-hangers will be equally surprised by Newt’s vituperations.

The European leaders get their economic marching orders from the same banks and hedge funds that got them into their mess, while the European people just get shafted.

The question isn’t whether Madonna should have done the Super Bowl halftime show, but what kind of damage control is now most appropriate.

All this, plus the pinball segment and some fresh bumper music make this yet another show that one misses at one’s own peril.

Urinating In Public

This is cold, politically way incorrect, and what I believe to be true:

If you take our armed forces, which are made up, to a shamefully disproportionate degree, of poorly educated service men and women who come from the lower economic rungs of our society, and put them in a living hell on a regular basis, they’re not going to extrapolate as to the geopolitical ramifications of pissing on guys who 5 minutes ago were trying to kill them and/or their buddies, and may well have succeeded to some degree.

They forgot their sensitivity training because it wasn’t nearly as convincing or intensive as the indoctrination they received to defend and attack, which reinforced, then ultimately distorted their primal instincts for self-preservation. The utterly foul Petri dish that Bush and Cheney dropped them into, and Obama and Clinton did nothing to extricate them from, was and remains a breeding ground for vile acts that human beings have committed on a regular basis throughout history.

If you want justice, punish the puppeteers, not the puppets.

Happy New Year!

“While the cat’s away the mice (or rats in this case) will play” is the theme of this week’s show. While our psyche’s take a well deserved rest from the daily barrage of unsettling world events, that same world takes advantage of our dropped guard and reveals extreme behavior that would alarm and dismay us were we in our usual state of vigilance:

1. The Chinese are planning to send men to the moon. LK thinks they’re going to claim it as theirs.

2. Iran claims to have produced a nuclear fuel rod and successfully test fired a long range missile.

3. President Obama signs a bill that he vowed to veto that risks our basic constitutional rights.

Among other things.

Dr. John Palumbo lightens things up by slicing and dicing the Republican field of weeds, and giving us his list resolutions, which, unlike the normal list, is not a collection of things he vows to do, but a list of what he vows NEVER to do again.

‘Twas the morn after Xmas and LK did a lot more than stir. He proposed the Common Decency Party, bemoaned the fact that his Stratfor.com info had been hacked, and redefined both war and broadcasting in the second decade of the 21st century.

Situational rather than absolute ethics means that we’re a society which has at least misplaced, if not lost, our core values, and LK finds himself agreeing with the Pope, the type of authority figure who usually makes him bristle.

Dr. John Palumbo goes from Buddha to bourbon in the blink of an eye while addressing the new Kim and the old Pelosi and Boehner.

The bucket of muck we call the news runneth over.

Ding Dong, the son of a witch is dead. Kim Jong Il has passed on to wherever twisted cognac loving despots with large video collections go. LK is relieved to know that a kid who’s never seen 30 candles on a birthday cake is now the custodian of a nice little nuclear arsenal. But the kid loves the NBA and Nike sneakers so all cities with franchises are in the clear.

The Iraqi veterans are getting the shortest end of the stick on record. There’s a brat in Britain who threatened to kill Santa AND his reindeer if she doesn’t get what she wants because she’s psychotically entitled to every last item on her wish list.

Dr. John Palumbo is back, and relates his trip to the planet Apple. He also fills LK in on “Who Do You Think You’re Foolin?’”, a new production of his that sticks it to the one per-centers, which can be found on the site here.

“Fungible” is the word of the day. Crude oil and gold are fungible. People are not, but governments and corporations haven’t gotten the word yet. LK clues them in.

The menu is full of fine choices and LK isn’t sure what his first course is going to be until the moment the waiter asks for his order. Should it be:

a. The anxiety attack Repubs and Dems alike no doubt had upon watching Saturday night’s Repub debate?

b. The decadence of the price of pet accoutrements at Barney’s considering the number of people on food stamps, while the nose in the air pet-owners bitch and moan over a potential luxury or “millionaire’s” tax?

c. The US gov’t welcoming (and paying for) Iraqi students to come here to study before extending a helping hand to the servicemen and woman who sacrificed life and limb to attempt to make the place livable?

LK ends up ordering the complete dinner and manages to both devour the subject material and offer it up at the same time. Dr. John Palumbo is absent with leave (not that he’s gotta ask) as he’s doing yet another one of his soulful good deeds.

LK is sick and tired of the likes of Herman Cain, Eliot Spitzer, Mark Sanford, and John Edwards not vetting themselves prior to abusing our precious time and resources before being found out. He proposes the CVC, or Citizen’s Vetting Committee, which will take 10% of all campaign donations and use it to dig up the dirt before we get buried in it.

LK posits that it’s only a matter of time before corruption goes inter-galactic, as it’s pretty much saturated this globe of ours, while musing on the co-existence of decadent gourmet food markets and an increasing number of kids needing the safety net of school lunches.

The Eurozone’s gone fascist; ain’t no other way to describe it.

Dr. John is nothing if not provocative, and LK delivers some sobering news about the Japanese and their nuclear denial.

A jolly good time was had by all.

Perspective and Gratitude

I got the shot to feel like a 1 percenter the other day. See here in this little town, although pretty affluent, there are people who, like in every town are struggling . There is kind of an unwritten deal here that if you have something you are going to get rid of, and it’s not just trash, you put it out on the curb and someone who can use it will take it.

Now, my dad lives with us and he is recovering from a pretty substantial illness, and one which has left him for the time being, at least, in a position to mostly hang out, lay around, nap with his dog and watch TV. He is absolutely fine with this current lifestyle, so I’m not looking for sympathy, just stating the facts. Besides the occasional walk through the house for exercise as he builds himself back up, TV is the only entertainment he has. Again – don’t misunderstand. Pop could watch TV until the Chinese colonize Mars. And he will watch anything. I ‘ve caught him staring at the Spanish Channel, even though he does’nt understand a word of Spanish. Of course if you have watched the Spanish Channel, you will notice that despite the Latina movement to lose their sexist, misogynistic image, all the women are scantily clad. And so for Pop, understanding the language seems not that important.

Anyway, we figured it would be a nice idea to buy him a new 51 inch flat screen cause the one we had back here where he likes to party was over twenty years old and the picture was out of focus and burning images – basically hard to make out. My son helped me drag out the huge old monster and we – like I explained, put it out on the curb.

The next morning, two women came to the door to make sure the TV was free. I told them it was, and that it worked but it would probably need someone to have a look at it cause the picture was weak. One of the women was so excited, she begged me to hide it so no one else would grab it and then cheered “Merry Christmas to me!” as she scooted excitedly out our driveway to get a truck.

Now, I whine. I try not to, but it’s in my nature from time to time to whine about this thing or that. I whined today. The Eagles got embarrassed by the Patriots, my car got smacked in a parking lot in Baltimore, and I’m whining right now how I could kill you for me being awake after beating myself to a pulp with two out of town concerts this weekend. And so, I want to thank those two women for the God-pie in the face reminding me to shut up, count my blessings – of which I have many, and get on with this beautiful life. I also have a tiny smile thinking of them sitting in front of dad’s old TV. I would like to think that if I ever did become a 1 percenter for real, I would do a lot of giving cause it just feels really cool.

From J-Lo to John Liu (NYC comptroller), no one is telling it like it is. No one, that is, besides LK. The hedgies and skankster banksters swoop down on Iraq after our young men and women sacrifice life and limb to make the place investable, and leave without any of the spoils. They and their families should be the first in line.

Gratitude (the enduring kind, not the one day and back to complaining kind) is taken up first by Dr. John and then by Dorothy from Brooklyn. LK does a Rick Perry on the word ignominy, one of the SAT type words that usually flows out of his mouth too often.

China, those Asian cyber-terrorists, are going to be building high speed rail lines for the British, while the European countries begin surrendering their sovereignty to the IMF, the ECB, the EU and any other alphabet soup that wants to get in on the plundering.

And Jim Boeheim should follow Bernie Fine out the door.

The show is a blast; LK comes out swinging and doesn’t let down. The Red Bull and military alertness gum work overtime. Enjoy.

LK spends a lot of time on the Stupor…, er, SuperCommittee that managed to take 10 weeks before announcing nothing but failure. This while the census revealed that one third of Americans or 100 million of us, are living at or slightly above the poverty line. To Jon Kyl (R) and John Kerry (D) we’re votes, not even voters; a means to their ends. And Rand Paul’s gotta show some respect for his constituents, even if they don’t realize that he’s working against them.

Nancy Pelosi makes stock trades on insider knowledge that would get her arrested were she not shielded by the cloak of Congressional privilege, as do many other “representatives” of the people from both parties.

Lone wolves abound, Thomas Friedman gets things half-right, and Dorothy from Brooklyn weighs in on our deteriorating quality of life. Dr. John takes the night off in order to do another one of his mind bogglingly selfless deeds. No joke.
