LK comes to bury Paterno, not to praise him, and can’t understand why anyone, besides the Friends of Sandusky, would see it otherwise.

He goes toe to toe with Dr. John, as they engage in a long volley of news both joyous and repulsive, and Dr. John’s fully redesigned 2012 Serenity Prayer rings true.

“While the cat’s away the mice (or rats in this case) will play” is the theme of this week’s show.  While our psyche’s take a well deserved rest from the daily barrage of unsettling world events, that same world takes advantage of our dropped guard and reveals extreme behavior that would alarm and dismay us were we in our usual state of vigilance:

1.  The Chinese are planning to send men to the moon.  LK thinks they’re going to claim it as theirs.

2.  Iran claims to have produced a nuclear fuel rod and successfully test fired a long range missile.

3.  President Obama signs a bill that he vowed to veto that risks our basic constitutional rights.

Among other things.

                          

I normally don’t get giddy happy thoughts and feelings when I see an ultra powerful guy fall from his perch on the top of the world.  Honest.  I suppose I was brought up not to wallow in others misfortune.  Not that I am a saint – far from it.  I just kind of see it as karma and try to use it as a lesson for myself when I screw up or hurt someone.  But, forgive me if I do a river dance over Rupert Murdoch’s tumble.  This is a very nasty man, and he deserves every bit of smelly rot that is being tossed his way.  And the irony is just brilliantly perfect, as Murdoch’s papers thrived on this kind of scandal.  In fact, he’s probably more upset about not being able to cover his own story than the fall of his News Corporation.

Just to be clear, Murdoch, through his papers, more accurately described as tabloids, have – this from an article in the NY Times, lowered the standards of journalism on three continents — and routinely broken the law on at least one of them. He had dumbed down his prestige papers, like The Times of London. He has run roughshod over cross-ownership rules meant to prevent one man or company from having too much power — and then used his lobbying might to get those rules diluted. He has put kowtowing to China ahead of freedom of the press, even killing a book set to be published by his HarperCollins unit – did this guy own EVERYTHING? – that the Chinese authorities objected to. He has consistently used his media properties to reward allies and punish enemies.

He also gave us Fox News, the tabloid TV outlet that Canada refused to give broadcast rights because in Canada there is a law prohibiting news shows from lying. I did not make that up.  Murdoch’s ugliness allowed, even prompted his minions to do such things as hack into the  phones of murdered teenagers, families of victims of  9-11, and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, where Rebekah Brooks called Brown to tell him the Sun was about to print that his infant child had cystic fibrosis.  That was the kind of news Murdoch and his dark crew feasted on.

Powerful enough to even bring down the big boys at Scotland Yard, an institution I always considered ranking up there with our FBI and Israel’s Mossad.  So, yeah.  I’m all smitten right now, especially after reading a piece from CNN that ultra-hackers Lulz Security got in and wrecked Murdoch’s Sun paper and his News International website and his Times of London.  I’m also not keen on hackers, but in this case, I’m giving Lulz a couple of thumbs up.  Let the weasel taste the bitter ugliness of being invaded.

We will have to wait and see what – if any punishment Murdoch gets.  But for now, being outed and paraded publicly for the terrible man he is works for me.

Besides the media going completely ballistic, what would our response be?  What would we think?  What key questions would be asked?

Well, speaking only for myself, I would start by wondering why our President was such a blockhead and how he could possibly be unaware of such a mission?  Same would go for the CIA, NSA, and Homeland Security.  Then I would be very frightened about the fact that Pakistan can get in and out of my country without our military having a clue.  Yikes!  How vulnerable are we, I would wonder as I considered packing my family up for a new life in Switzerland.

Eventually, my conspiracy brain would start blossoming, and I would entertain the idea that they – the Pakistani and our CIA struck a deal.  That we couldn’t take the heat for killing bin Laden because of the potential violent repercussions on our only real ally in the Middle East, Israel.  Logically, then – my illogical brain would conclude, the whole thing was a scam.  He’s not even dead!  That’s why the ISI refuses to show post-mortem pictures, why the blink of an eye burial, and why President Obama is pretending to be angry with Pakistan.  That has to be it, I would convince myself  because I just couldn’t take the fact that the leaders of my country, indeed, my country itself  is a collection of buffoons, laughed at by the entire world.

I understand Pakistan.  I understand why PM Gilani is so miffed, as we – all of us love our countries.  We take pride in our heritage, in our Nationalism.  No matter what the belief system, we participate and relish in it. It is our homeland and is not to be mocked or minimized by anyone.  Insulting my country is insulting me.

So, try to relate to the people of Pakistan as they read about how we snookered them and took out the most wanted criminal in the world right from under their noses.  If, in fact the government and some extremists were aware of bin Laden being there, that does not negate the insult and embarrassment on the people, as just like you and me, the government many times fails to represent our genuine beliefs.

If the world were a prison, right now Pakistan would be the new bitch.  Standing in the gen-pop yard waiting for the next gang to make its move, it would know that its survival depends on it being defensive, wary, and ready to fight back.
