Cell phones and their radiation are a thorn in LK’s side, or more specifically, in the blood/brain barrier within his noggin.  And Ted Nugent should stick to Cat Scratch Fever, rather than the dog eat dog world of politics.

                          

The BBC reports that that Mein Kampf is being published by the German state of Bavaria, for the first time since WWII.  It brought to mind the piece below (written in 2009), which used the Jews in pre-war Germany as an example of a larger human tendency, and of a looming global unease.  LK

Following World War I, there were millions of Jews living in Germany, Austria, Poland, and myriad other Western and Eastern European countries.  During the 1920’s and early 30’s the seeds of Nazism were planted and Hitler’s rise to power in 1933 sealed the evil deal.

During this Rosemary’s Baby-like gestation period there were Jews who felt the change coming and emigrated, despite having to leave careers and wealth behind, and despite having to deal with starting anew in foreign lands.

There were others who also felt the rumbles, but did the equivalent of sticking their heads in the sand, acting as if perhaps they were exempt from the oncoming tsunami, or deferring to their ultimately deadly sense of inertia, which caused them to stay put.

There were also those who were impervious to the odor of the foul winds, whose antennae weren’t sensitive enough, and who didn’t have the ability to process what they were able to feel, and went about their business as usual.  They too fell hard.

The second group, the group that, with effort, ignored the impressions received by their senses and souls, could rightly be called the true “victim class”, as they were the ones who, for lack of a gentler way to put it,  chose to become victims.

I submit that there’s something brewing in America, and in the world, that will result in changes as substantial as those that led to the World Wars, the Great Depression, the Civil War, the Crusades, and countless other historic tipping points.  It hasn’t yet solidified enough to have a name or recognizable shape, but vapors will turn into clouds, and clouds into icebergs,  and those icebergs will cause our Titanic world to undergo yet another tectonic shift.

While I’ve used the Jews in the period prior to WWII as an example of the types of choices we humans make in the face of foundational fissures, my point applies to all of us now living in the Western World.

The question is, will we, as groups and/or as individuals, choose to heed the early warning signs as they steadily become more apparent, or will we simply hope that by going about our daily work and daily play we can avoid the inevitable?  And will those of us with eyes to see and ears to hear make the extra effort to assist the third group, those without the ability to perceive or avoid the dangers ahead?

There is much to ponder, and much to do.

                          

On today’s show, LK:

De-mystifies the Greek debt debacle and makes it clear that the Credit Default Swap mess that threatens to bring down Europe and played a big part in bringing down Lehman Brothers is nothing but a bunch of bookies/bankers who can’t pay off winning bets.  For once, it’s the bookies/bankers who need their knees broken.

Points out that the Chinese are cleaning our clocks in a way that’s eerily similar to how we brought down the Soviet Union in the ’80’s.

Suggests that no one give up a job they hate in search of greener pastures just yet (don’t stop looking, just don’t give up the bird in the hand), because it’s a misconception to believe that the better economic numbers mean that the coast is clear.

Chastises the NFL players, disses Santorum (like shooting fish in a barrel of contraceptives), takes 30 seconds instead of the 2 full shows it takes other hosts to reconcile the rush from Rush, and declares the Republican quest for the nomination close to a done deal for Romney now that Ted Nugent’s endorsed him.  Cat Scratch Fever, Mitt’s new campaign theme song.

Talks with Dr. John Palumbo about the folly of Afghanistan and the pursuit of inner peace.

LK comes to bury Paterno, not to praise him, and can’t understand why anyone, besides the Friends of Sandusky, would see it otherwise.

He goes toe to toe with Dr. John, as they engage in a long volley of news both joyous and repulsive, and Dr. John’s fully redesigned 2012 Serenity Prayer rings true.

Like you , LK…I too am done!  Toasted. Fatigued, infuriated, and feeling helpless.  A voice in a void that, unless I say something completely idiotic, hateful  and ruthless enough to go viral on You Tube, rises like a silent cloud to nothingness.  A voice that on Tuesday had so much more meaning as it screamed GOAL!!!! while my wife and I sat in hockey bliss, munching $9.00 fries and $10.00 beers.  A voice that delivers joy and pure devotion as it whispers “I love you,” to my sleeping wife.  Otherwise, a voice that is basically unnecessary.

We – more-so  you – rant weekly about all the horrors, cruelties, political gaffs and corruption, illegal and un-winnable wars, genocide, and on and on and on.  And yes, it’s a good thing to enlighten, to make people aware.  But even too much awareness bloats the psyche.  Like a therapy session that lasts longer than an hour because the brain shuts down from too much information, enlightenment and awareness become so much white noise, or worse, crying wolf.

And so, at least for now, I am washing myself clean of any and all responsibility of everything and anything that goes on outside my immediate circle of loved ones.  I imagine this will last for two or three days, but right now, it feels really, really good!

                          

“While the cat’s away the mice (or rats in this case) will play” is the theme of this week’s show.  While our psyche’s take a well deserved rest from the daily barrage of unsettling world events, that same world takes advantage of our dropped guard and reveals extreme behavior that would alarm and dismay us were we in our usual state of vigilance:

1.  The Chinese are planning to send men to the moon.  LK thinks they’re going to claim it as theirs.

2.  Iran claims to have produced a nuclear fuel rod and successfully test fired a long range missile.

3.  President Obama signs a bill that he vowed to veto that risks our basic constitutional rights.

Among other things.

                          

Situational rather than absolute ethics means that we’re a society which has at least misplaced, if not lost, our core values, and LK finds himself agreeing with the Pope, the type of authority figure who usually makes him bristle.

Dr. John Palumbo goes from Buddha to bourbon in the blink of an eye while addressing the new Kim and the old Pelosi and Boehner.

a.  The anxiety attack Repubs and Dems alike no doubt had upon watching Saturday night’s Repub debate?

b.  The decadence of the price of pet accoutrements at Barney’s considering the number of people on food stamps, while the nose in the air pet-owners bitch and moan over a potential  luxury or “millionaire’s” tax?

c.  The US gov’t welcoming (and paying for) Iraqi students to come here to study before extending a helping hand to the servicemen and woman who sacrificed life and limb to attempt to make the place livable?

LK ends up ordering the complete dinner and manages to both devour the subject material and offer it up at the same time.  Dr. John Palumbo is absent with leave (not that he’s gotta ask) as he’s doing yet another one of his soulful good deeds.

We can assume the Pope knows about pedophile priests, bishops and other church hierarchy.  And we now know that Joe Paterno was told about the sodomy of a young child by one of his coaches.  As for Schwartz, he told an Armed Forces congressional panel he took “personal responsibility” for what occurred in 2009, when soldiers’ body parts went missing and then wound up in a landfill somewhere in Virginia.

The Pope protects the Catholic Church.  Paterno attempted to protect Penn State football, and Schwartz tried to protect the US Air Force.  I smell something missing.  But before getting to that, another assumption must be made.  All three of these guys most definitely are not – were not promoting child abuse.  We can say with almost absolute certainty that these three top guys are not pro man-child sexual relations.  We can also make book on the fact that none of these guys held the victims in any formidable place in the line of importance.  And there is where they all stink as humans.  Along with their power, comes responsibility.  Not one of them stepped up to the plate and took any action until they were hit with the not so glamorous spotlight of exposure.

Did Schwartz fire everyone involved with the unbelievable concept of burning and dumping our hero’s body parts?  Did Joe clean house when given a detailed description of the ugly, unspeakable stuff that was being done to children?  Is the Pope washing clean the stains on the souls of his priests and bishops by turning them over to the policia?  No. No. and No.  Sports reporters rumble on about the Penn State scandal not being about football.  It’s not?  Then what is it about?  We’ve already established Paterno is not pro-ped.  So, why the whitewash?  The Catholic Church denounces the despicable acts, as does the Air Force, but – like Joe – they consider the bigger picture.

Well, my friends, if the bigger picture does not have the victims and their families forefront, then that picture is distorted and plain wrong.

The fact is those violated will never be the same.  Their lives have been changed forever.  The families of the landfill soldiers will look upon our country’s military as a shameless machine that has dishonored their loved ones.  Used them up and tossed them away.

Responsibility is a great word, and an even greater concept, but like so much of the word noise we get from political, corporate, and big religion, it is only that – noise.  These people are essentially lobbyists looking out for themselves and the shadowy upper echelon who pay them.  They are not anything more than that.  Leeches, piranha, bulldozers, sucking dry, eating up and blowing through anything that may prove disruptive to their personal money pots.

                          

As LK wrote to a mentor type last week:

We’ve gotten stupid and selfish and evil, but of the few who allow themselves to see that, even fewer are willing to say it.  Nothing good is going to happen unless and until there is a critical mass of revulsion for the culture we have embraced and/or succumbed to.

This week’s show jumps from Wall Street to Washington to war zones, from bailouts of too big to fail to failings of too small-minded to think straight.  Everybody’s doing “The Corruption” as if it’s the latest dance craze.

To lighten things up, LK and Dr. John deal with LK’s delusional belief that the Yankees are in the LCS, and they tip their hats to Governor Christie for speeding up the auto inspection process by putting brakes, wipers, and leaky gas tanks on the back burner.
