LK, the keeper of LooseKannon.com, has a B.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University. He got there via the NYC public school system. Spend sixty seconds with him and it’s clear he’s not part of the media elite.
LK is juiced big time about joining AM970The Apple, in NYC, the biggest radio market in the country. In addition to his new terrestrial slot, LK is currently a member of the Talkers Magazine Frontier Fifty, their selection of outstanding talk media webcasters. Talkers Magazine is “The Bible of Talk Radio and the New Talk Media”, and in the words of Muhammad Ali, “it ain’t bragging if it’s true”.
LK drank the Kool-Aid and wrote policy pieces on education and the economy for the Obama campaign, but after initially agreeing with him that money was better spent on teachers than sending our kids into an unwinnable war, once in office O and company did an about face and pissed him off big time. Political bait and switch doesn’t sit well with him. As it turned out, neither did the Kool-Aid.
LK has gold records and #1 plaques on his walls from records/CD’s he’s produced, executive produced, and/or mixed. When he was 11 he played the piano for Van Cliburn’s mom at Carnegie Recital Hall, in his parent’s hope that she would take him on as a student. She would not. He’s probably better off for it, as was Mrs. Cliburn.
He’s the co-president of an Advisory Board for a nationally renowned youth basketball/education program that has won local and national championships and helps kids from diverse backgrounds reach their academic goals.
He was the co-host of a syndicated (if 3 stations passes for syndicated) terrestrial radio show having to do with the financial markets and investor psychology. He regularly hangs out with Managing Directors of Wall Street firms who are worth much more than he is and rarely share his political viewpoints. Despite this, he considers them all to be people of high character possessing deep and probing intelligence. Except for some of them.
He is not, contrary to the impression that might be gathered from the above, full of himself, although he used to be.

RE: broadcast of 2/23/11
LK is correct in his focu on education. This writer believes the only hope the USA has is to reform its education system immediately. A massive injection of funds is needed. Take the $$ from the defense budget; take it from the foreign aid we willy-nilly send all around the world. And even acting right now won’t help for 2-3 generations.
Most Americans are complacent. Even those caught in the economic downturn, the unemployed, underemployed and working poor almost seem to accept their lot. They should be making lots of noise. But I think they’ve been beaten down.
They see so much dishonesty in government and special privileges for the well-connected and rich that they have given up hope of things ever changing.
Yes, its a dark picture. But unless strong efforts are made to remedy the unbelieveable imbalance between the haves and have nots, this country will continue its downward spiral.
Rome fell. Greece fell. The British Empire lost its power. We’re next.
